Canterbury Holds Mini Showday at the Park

MEDIA RELEASE

16 November 2009

For immediate release

It’s an annual tradition which takes place the week after the Show; the 2009 Boys and Girls Agricultural Club Championship Day will take place at Canterbury Agricultural Park at 10am on Thursday 19 November.

Organised by the Canterbury A&P Association, the Championship Day takes the form of a mini A&P Show, giving outlying Canterbury Primary Schools the opportunity to compete in livestock judging, similar to what they would experience at an A&P Show.

To qualify for the Championships, entrants had to have attended a school pet day within their area.

Students will be judged across three sections: Care and Attention, Leading and Handling and their Project Book which was submitted prior to the Royal New Zealand Show.

Classes include Beef Calves, Goats, Dairy Calves and Lambs. The classes will be split into two age groups, Juniors (years 1-4) and Seniors (years 5-8).

The media are welcome to attend the judging which will be held between the RDA Building and Stables on the corner of Deans Avenue and Northcote Drive. Judging starts at 10am and prize giving will be held at the conclusion of the judging at approximately 11am.

Canterbury Agricultural Park is a 145 hectare purpose built Show facility and the home of the annual Royal New Zealand Show.

The Canterbury A&P Association will host its 148th Show on Wednesday 10 to Friday 12 November 2010.
