Canterbury Boys and Girls Ag Day Results

The Boys and Girls Agricultural Club Championship Day was held today at Canterbury Agricultural Park.

Outlying Canterbury Primary Schools were given the opportunity to compete in livestock judging, similar to what they would experience at an A&P Show. To qualify for the Championships, entrants had to have attended a school pet day within their region.

Students were judged across three sections: Care and Attention, Leading and Handling and their Project Books which were submitted prior to the Royal New Zealand Show.

Numbers were strong with 59 entries received, comprising beef calves, dairy calves, lambs, poultry, pigs and goats.

Section trophy winners included Ethan Charman of Greenpark School (Dairy Calf), Jarod Haylock of Greenpark School (Beef Calf) and Jaden Jones-Doherty from Greenpark School (Lamb).

Each participant was required to parade their animal in front of the judges and answer questions on their care. Richard Lemon, Canterbury A&P Association Chairman of Committees and MC for the day commented on the quality of the animals on display. “The quality of animals on display is outstanding, it’s a credit to the children”, added Lemon.

After some serious deliberation, winners across all sections and classes were decided. All entrants received a certificate and ice cream courtesy of Tip Top. Winning entries also received ribbons and trophies.
