War of Words erupts over Secret Weapon Claim in Diplomats –Parliamentarians Game.
The captain of the Wellington Diplomats rugby side has dismissed claims that they have secretly signed French star Sebastien Chabal for next weeks clash of parliamentarians and diplomats at Prince of Wales Park in Newtown.
Following a claim by Parliamentarian rugby stalwart and Foreign Minister Murray McCully that the diplomats were fielding some stellar substitutes, rumours have been sweeping Wellington of a Diplomatic secret rugby weapon.
However Spanish Ambassador and team captain Marcos Gomez has dismissed this speculation as classic political bluster and has promised a hard but fair game.
“ This is the first time we have played the politicians and I think it is a fortunate that the ground is close to Wellington Regional Hospital.”
The 13 diplomatic posts including Argentina, Australia, Chile, European Commission, Fiji, France, Malaysia, Peru, Singapore, Spain, Tonga, United States and United Kingdom are raising funds for Samoa’s post Tsunami construction and to highlight the coming Rugby World Cup.
Team captain Gomez is had the original idea for the game while talking to the New Zealand Foreign Minister at the launch of the countdown to the Rugby World Cup. The game will begin with a minute of silence dedicated to the memory of the Tsunami victims and Annalies Bogaert the Dutch ambassador to New Zealand who died last weekend.
Kick-off will be at 6.30 p.m. on November the 25th.
