Tom Jones Touring Australia, NZ 2010
The Frontier Touring Company and Roundhouse Entertainment are pleased to announce Tom Jones will be touring in 2010 for a series of indoor and A Day On The Green winery concerts.
In his native Wales, he is known as "Jones
the Voice". Today, he is one of the enduring personalities
in the music entertainment business. His unique vocal power,
ability and charismatic persona make him one of the most
respected, admired and loved performers in modern popular
music.
Tom has sustained his popularity for more than
four decades. Born Thomas Jones Woodward in Pontypridd,
South Wales, Great Britain on June 7, 1940, his father
worked the coalmines of the Rhondda Valley, while his mother
tended the house and the two children. After marrying at 17,
Tom went on to sign with Decca Records in London.
Tom
has a fundamental interest in a wide range of musical
expression. Although he is best known for hits including
Kiss, Delilah and If I Only Knew he is first and foremost a
rocker with a true rhythm and blues soul. Tom was involved
in Martin Scorsese’s Red White & Blues series; in 2000 he
released the multi-million seller Reload, the most
successful album of his career, and in 2004 an album of big
band songs with Jools Holland in the UK.
His 40-year
career has seen highlights including receiving a BRIT Award
for Outstanding Contribution to Music, a Silver Clef Award
for Lifetime Achievement and appearing as himself in hit US
comedy The Simpsons. Other film roles have included parts in
Mars Attacks! and Agnes Brown.
Tom was knighted by Her
Majesty the Queen in 2006 and enjoys a consistent touring
schedule throughout the year. His latest musical offering,
24 Hours (Liberator December 4 2009), and was co-written by
Tom himself – with many of the tracks being an insightful
reflection of his life thus far. The album also includes
“Sugar Daddy” which was specially penned for Tom by
U2’s Bono, and a re-make of Bruce Springsteen’s “The
Hitter”.
Tom Jones is renowned for the quality of
his live performance.
“Few performers can keep up
with Tom Jones. His sold out show….left little doubt that
Jones is a man who knows how to live. Screaming females
don’t dominate his audience nowadays….there seemed to be
as many guys on hand looking to absorb a bit of his mojo”
Boston Herald
“The audience—a mix of ages and
seemingly spanning the spectrum from true believers to
ironists—was eager to be taken for a ride, or maybe be
just run over. And so we were. Wham, bam, thank you,
sir!!’’ Vanity Fair
“Jones’show is remarkable
for its sheer relentlessness…42 years after his first
Vegas gig at the Flamingo, he’s still got it. But this is
not an oldies show [and] his voice is as powerful as ever,
maybe more so. [He] gives the people what he knows they
want—but on his time and his terms. When it’s all over,
you leave knowing you’ve been in the still-vital presence
of the real lion king.” Las Vegas Sun
Tom last
visited New Zealand in 2008 for a headline performance at
The Mission in Napier but this is his first tour of New
Zealand for close to ten years.
Tom has always
enjoyed popularity in New Zealand with all generations, and
with an enviable live concert reputation, tickets for the
tour will be in hot demand!
Joining Tom on stage are
the quintessential kiwi iconic band Hello Sailor and female
icons The Lady Killers.
Hello Sailor is thrilled to
be performing at Villa Maria as support act for the
legendary Tom Jones.
The band these days features a
six-piece line-up that includes Hello Sailor’s three
founding members, Graham Brazier, Dave McArtney and Harry
Lyon, with long-time drummer Rick Ball, bass player Paul
Woolright and Stuart Pearce on piano.
Harry Lyon says,
“We love the Sailor gigs because we only play when we want
to and it makes it special. We’re all such firm friends,
so when we get together it’s just a great time and I think
the gigs reflect that. I know we’re all really looking
forward to supporting Tom Jones at a venue we know our
audience will enjoy.
The band has been in Roundhead
Studios recently recording tracks for an album planned for
release next year. 2010 will be the band’s 35th
anniversary and they want to celebrate with the release of
some new material and some select shows.
To welcome
the audience, first up on stage is The Lady Killers, a dream
team of New Zealand’s finest female singers and
entertainers. Tina Cross, Suzanne Lynch, Jackie Clark and
Taisha make up this legendary group of singing
divas.
The Lady Killers act is sophisticated,
glamorous and sure to dazzle on stage in the lead up to what
will definitely be a magnificent night of entertainment with
their co-stars Hello Sailor and Mr Tom Jones.
Every
ticket purchased will include a copy of Tom Jones’ new
album 24 Hours.
Tickets are on sale 7 December 2009.
Please visit frontiertouring.com for pre-sale information.
“24 Hours” is in stores December 4 through
