Rhythm & Vines Announce Further Acts To Join The Programme For 2009
Just when you thought the line-up of acts couldn’t get any better, RHYTHM & VINES are pleased to confirm a fourth installment of artists to perform at the festival this year.
UK eclectic production duo THE NEXTMEN, also known as Brad Baloo and Dom Search, have been pushing through numerous sweaty styled-out club sets and festival-stopping performances of late and will join the stage at RHYTHM & VINES with one of Britain’s most exciting young artists and music entrepreneurs MC WREC. Over the last few years THE NEXTMEN have been infusing the European club scene with their undeniably fresh take on club based electronica, mixing dancehall, hip-hop, soul and dubstep with the vocal styling of some of today’s great talents including MC WREC and even New Zealand’s own Fat Freddy’s Drop singer Dallas Tamaira (aka Joe Dookie).
Coming straight out of the East End of London to
Gisborne, New Zealand, is MICACHU AND THE SHAPES - one of
the freshest acts to emerge on the indie/alternative scene
in recent years. Micachu (Mica Levi), with backing from The
Shapes (Marc Pell - Drums, Raisa Khan - Keys & Electronics)
are a treat to behold. Their absorbing electro-pop, wonky
rhythms and edgy Brit Rock within stunning production is
garnering them critical acclaim across the board.
MICACHU AND THE SHAPES perform with an assortment of
alternative instruments including a xylophone made of light
bulbs, a Cloud Chamber made out of pyrex dishes and a
modified guitar played with a hammer action called a
‘chu’. Bjork is said to be a big fan, and can probably
identify with another act brave enough to take pop music
into entirely uncharted territory. This is definitely one
act not to be missed at R&V.
When a publication such as
DJ Magazine says UK DJ DAMIAN LAZARUS “… plays the best
underground records in the world,” anyone who has a taste
for late night madness, future dance floor classics and
cutting edge new ideas will want to make sure they catch his
set at RHYTHM & VINES. DAMIAN LAZARUS is one of a small
number of DJ’s delivering a fresh sonic surge of forward
thinking music and new dance floor perspectives. Best
described as dirty and deep, DAMIAN LAZARUS delivers
electronic house and much more.
Adding to the already
jam-packed local line-up are Auckland indie gems
POPSTRANGERS; Hot electro-pop new-comers DAT’S THE CRUX;
Singer ANNABEL FAY, alongside the stellar DJ additions of
AROHA, ANDY VANN, HASZARI, GRIND and A.D.A.M.
