Sallies’ CD reaches platinum sales
For the second year running The Salvation
Army's Christmas CD has sold 15,000 copies in less than two
weeks. That's the equivalent of reaching platinum sales
status.
The Salvation Army produced 50,000 copies of 'It's a Wrap 2' CD released on 24 November. Sales of the CDs are expected to generate around $120,000, all of which will go to the Army's Christmas Appeal.
'It’s a Wrap 2' CDs are available for a $5 donation from Countdown, Woolworths and Foodtown supermarkets. Dave Chambers, General Manager of Supermarket Operations for Progressive Enterprises, says, “The CD has been a great hit with our customers and staff. It's great to know that all of our efforts will go towards The Salvation Army’s outstanding work in our communities.”
The 15-track CD, produced by The Salvation Army's Creative Ministries Department in Wellington, features Christmas songs in a variety of styles. Guest singers Bella Kalolo, Musical Island Boys and Otis were thrilled to be a part of a project that will assist Kiwis in need.
Major Robbie Ross, The Salvation Army's Public Relations Secretary, says, “We’re grateful to have the backing of Progressive Enterprises for a second year. Their support means we can continue helping the most disadvantaged people in our communities.
“Tough economic times have shifted the poverty line and people are coming to us for help who would never have needed to before. The Salvation Army has seen a 40% increase in the demand for food parcels alone,” says Major Ross.
“Once again we are thrilled to see so many New Zealanders enjoy our CD and we are confident all 50,000 can be sold.”
