Iconic Four Square man gives thumbs up for CanTeen
New Zealand artist Dick Frizzell’s latest rendition of the iconic Mr Four Square has given the thumbs up for CanTeen.
Frizzell has created a drawing of the caricature wearing ultra distance marathon runner Lisa Tamati’s bandanna design and has ‘CanTeen’ emblazoned across his apron.
It is listed on Trade Me and will go to the highest bidder on Saturday morning (Dec 19).
The drawing was commissioned by a group of graduates from the Management Development Programme at Foodstuffs (Auckland) Ltd as part of its fundraising for CanTeen.
All proceeds from the A3 size drawing will go directly to CanTeen.
Mr Four Square was created by the Foodstuffs advertising department in the 1950s and has since become a symbol of Kiwiana. The logo is closely associated with the art of Frizzell who has used the smiling shopkeeper in many of his works.
A replica drawing will be gifted to CanTeen as a symbol of the long standing relationship between Foodstuffs Auckland and CanTeen.
CanTeen is urging New Zealanders to get behind the auction saying the piece of kiwi memorabilia would make a fantastic Christmas present.
