HOT Travel list – Best places to celebrate New Year’s Eve

House of Travel’s Retail Director Brent Thomas says despite it being the biggest party of the year in some parts of the world, Kiwis have never really made a big fuss over New Year’s Eve.

“Our cities empty out as we tend to spend New Year’s Eve at a bach or campground, watching local bands rock the provinces, or just relaxing at home.

“While our choice for New Year’s Eve suggests that we prefer a quieter, more low key experience, events like the Sevens, the Big Day Out and WOW show Kiwis still love a good party. And there are plenty of options for those wanting to do something different and make a real night of it,” Mr Thomas says.

House of Travel has come up with the best five alternatives to celebrating New Year’s Eve at home.

Best places to celebrate New Year’s Eve differently in 2009

1. Ko Pha Nang, Thailand – Three words: Full. Moon. Party. Join over 50,000 people from across the globe for the biggest countdown beach party of the year.

2. Niagara Falls – Over 30,000 people gather at one of the wonders of the world to watch an amazing fireworks display.

3. New York – There a good reason why around 1 million people flock to Times Square before midnight on New Years Eve just to see the dropping of the ball.

4. Las Vegas –Las Vegas parties every night, but whether it’s down the strip or in the casinos, everywhere makes a special effort for New Years.

5. Tweeds/Coolangatta – Take advantage of differences in daylight saving on the East Coast of Australia and have two New Year’s Eve countdowns by crossing the NSW/Queensland border.

House of Travel has packages to all of these New Year’s destinations and more. Contact your nearest House of Travel for your New Year’s travel.
