Metropolitan Opera To Transmit Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier To 18 Cinemas Across New Zealand (Limited Season)

The third NZ season of The Met: Live in HD continues in Cinemas from Thursday, February 4th with Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier, starring Renée Fleming as the Marschallin and Susan Graham as Octavian.

Edo De Waart conducts a cast that includes Christine Schäfer as Sophie, Eric Cutler as the Italian singer, Thomas Allen as Faninal, and Kristinn Sigmundsson as Baron Ochs.
This live transmission is hosted by legendary tenor Plácido Domingo; intermission features include live backstage interviews with the cast.

Der Rosenkavalier is the fifth in a series of nine transmissions as part of the 2009-10 The Met: Live in HD series and was transmitted live from New York via satellite to over 1,000 movie theatres, performing arts centres, universities and museums worldwide.

The Met: Live in HD has expanded its distribution in the 2009-10 season to include 44 countries. New countries that joined the Live in HD network this season include the Bahamas, Bulgaria, Chile, Hong Kong, Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, and Uruguay.

The Met: Live in HD returns in the following locations: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, Latvia, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa, the United Kingdom and several UK independent movie theaters and performing arts organizations.

Der Rosenkavalier will be screened on a tape delay basis in Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, and South Korea, approximately three weeks following the live transmission which took place on Saturday, January 9.
