BioPaints Thanks the Region
BioPaints – the principal sponsor of the weekend’s Nelson Opera in the Park are overwhelmed by the attendance at the event and wish to thank the community for their support.
BioPaints owner Tony Mount says yesterday’s audience, which looks as though it could be a record-breaking number for Opera in the Park, was more than he’d anticipated when he offered to cover the cost of tickets to make them free.
“All I could do was smile on Saturday night when I saw the people around me enjoying themselves so much. It was a very moving time for me, and it reinforced the decision to sponsor this iconic event and make it free.”
“My initial vision when I first talked to the Nelson City Council in the middle of last year was to have Nelson Opera in the Park as a truly accessible celebration. We’ve done that and with a potentially record crowd. Saturday night made me feel extremely proud and happy to live in this region,” he says.
BioPaints has been thrilled with the new location at Tahunanui playing fields.
“It proved itself on Saturday as being a magical spot. There was something about having it beside the seaside that really added a special atmosphere. And the fireworks were a particularly fitting way to end a great evening,” says Tony Mount.
Tony Mount and the BioPaints team would like to also thank the business community who got on board through the newly established Good Business Group to devise ways to enhance Nelson Opera in the Park through their businesses.
“We’ve got a fantastic, energetic lot of business people in the Nelson and Tasman communities. It’s been great to be able to encourage them to do things and we’re especially pleased that the smaller communities such as Mapua and Motueka got into the spirit of the event. The free buses we provided for Mapua and Motueka were enthusiastically accepted and supported by the people who live there,” says Tony Mount.
Tony Mount has already committed to supporting next year’s Nelson Opera in the Park.
“There’s no doubt that BioPaints will again be the principal sponsor, and I can say now that I’m prepared to cover the cost of the tickets in 2011 so they’ll once again be free.”
