'Super' Website to Promote Events

'Super' Website to Promote Events
Press Release

(note that this is being published on Scoop on March 1 2010)

Two New Zealand online event calendars are joining forces to create a one-stop shop connecting cultural providers and consumers.

The websites, privately-operated Eventfinder and government-operated NZLive.com, have negotiated a private-public partnership which will combine the power of Eventfinder’s smart technology with the extensive cultural content of the events calendar on NZLive.com.

The Eventfinder and NZLive websites will combine their 162,000 and 85,000 visitors per month respectively under the Eventfinder name. The combined monthly visitation is likely to result in the Eventfinder website becoming one of New Zealand’s top 30 sites.

The Ministry for Culture and Heritage’s chief executive Lewis Holden said the “bigger, better website” was good for all involved.

“It’s good for artists and arts organisations because they get maximum exposure by entering their events at no cost in one place and have them appear in many places; it’s good for cultural consumers here and overseas because they have one great site where they can find out what’s on; and it’s good for all New Zealanders because it’s a smart, cost effective solution,” Mr Holden said.

Eventfinder chief executive Michael Turner said one of main benefits was bringing the two current website audiences to one “super” site.

“Also, the events content currently on Eventfinder and NZLive.com is syndicated to a range of other websites. Combining the sites will make the events and attractions available across many more sites including Stuff, the NZ Herald, Yahoo!Xtra, MSN NZ, AA Travel, Jasons, Tourism New Zealand, Air New Zealand and the MetService. And all of these websites will now have the benefit of truly comprehensive, national events coverage,” said Mr Turner.

The transition of content from NZLive to Eventfinder is planned for early in 2010.
