Trans Tasman Poker Super Star To Play In Christchurch Casinos New Zealand Poker Championships
Christchurch Casino has confirmed Australian poker super star, Stewart Scott, to play in the Main Event at the New Zealand Poker Champs (NZPC).
Scott, who took home AU$2,000,000 for winning the 2009 Aussie Millions Main Event, says he’s looking forward to touching down on kiwi turf for his second shot at the New Zealand Poker Champion title.
“The NZPC is a favourite event of mine. I am really excited to be coming back this year and catching up with all the people who enjoy the tournament as much as me”, says Scott.
Stewart Scott, a household name in poker circles throughout the Asia-Pacific region, says his return to Christchurch Casino’s flagship tournament is a reflection of the world-class event that is hosted ‘down-under’ in the boutique Casino:
“I really enjoyed last year’s tournament – the well run event and fantastic service puts it in a class of its own. Everyone I know speaks so highly of it – you can see this in the high calibre of players who come back year after year”, continued Scott.
But Scott isn’t expecting an easy road through to the number one spot with 2009 New Zealand Poker Champion, Soren Eriksen, also confirmed to take his seat to defend his title and keep the trophy in New Zealand for the second year in the tournament’s history.
“I’m hoping for a super deep run in the Main Event and obviously a trophy finish. But you never know who’s going to come through. Soren was outstanding last year and I’m pleased to hear he’s back for another shot, he’s a great guy”, said Scott.
Not only will Scott have reigning champ Eriksen to contend with but a likely group of familiar trans-tasman names who are expected to confirm their return to the tournament in the coming weeks.
This year will be Christchurch Casino’s twelfth New Zealand Poker Championships. The Main Event title has been won only once by a New Zealander, Soren Eriksen, last year. The Main Event will have a full field at 160 competitors, giving each a chance to take home their share of the event’s $400,000 prize pool.
The NZPC will take place from 9 – 18 April 2010 at Christchurch Casino.
Competitors can purchase their seat online at www.christchurchcasino.co.nz or in person at Christchurch Casino for NZD $2,750.
