ZooMusic brings the party to the people

Opensouls and Batucada Sound Machine are bringing another successful Wild Bean Cafe ZooMusic season to a close on Friday, 12 March from 6pm.

Expect to hear the soulful, rhythm-and-blues infused tracks from Opensouls’ latest critically acclaimed album Standing in the Rain, and groove along to the infectious energy that they bring to their live shows.

Joining them will be the Latin-based rhythms of Batucada Sound Machine, who are quickly establishing a reputation for delivering a blistering live performance.

An Emerald City will kick-off the three-hour finale with their adventurous and eclectic sound.

Auckland Zoo’s conservation officer Peter Fraser says that concert-goers can enjoy a top New Zealand double-billing while helping protect New Zealand’s rarest dolphin.

“There is still so much we don’t know about Maui’s dolphins, so some of the funds from this concert will help the Department of Conservation to carry out important monitoring and research, and educate the public about what they can do to help.

“Set-net fishing is a major threat to these dolphins and while fishing is a popular Kiwi past time, we need to let people know that they are responsible for the consequences of their fishing practices,” says Mr Fraser.

Jeremy Toy from Opensouls is encouraging Aucklanders to come along and help marine mammals in the Hauraki Gulf.

“The conservation of our earth and its animals is one of the most important things that we as humans can do. If our concert can help save one of the rarest marine dolphin in the world, then it’s a job well done,” he says.

A great day and night out – a ZooMusic ticket is also entry to the zoo on concert day so music lovers can come early and explore at their leisure. However, visitors will not be allowed in after 4.15pm and the zoo will be cleared at 5.30pm for set-up.

Wild Bean Cafe ZooMusic 2010 is supported by TV3, The Radio Network, Sunday Star-Times, iSite Media, Montana, DB Breweries and RAW. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster and Auckland Zoo.
