Project KPH
set to make more dreams come true at Taupo Motorsport Park
this weekend!
Project KPH is all set to help eight children realise their motor racing dreams at Taupo Motorsport Park this weekend.
The children are coming from all over the middle of the North Island says Project KPH Founder Leah Evans.
“The eight KPH kids we have lined up for this Saturdays event all have varying special needs. They hail from all over including two very excited Rotorua locals from Western Heights High School.
“All the kids are buzzing about what they are to be part of and not to mention some excited parents too! It does wonders for the bond between parent and child to experience something so positive together” says Leah.
Leah says the kids are in for what will be a very unique opportunity to get up close and personal with some of New Zealand’s top motor racing talent, their teams and cars; in a positive, safe and encouraging environment.
Project KPH is all set to deliver another amazing day to kids less advantaged than most, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the majority of the kids through the programme says Evans.
“The kids will visit with around five teams from different classes of racing including the NZV8’s, Porsche GT3 Cup, and the Production Racing Series. These kids will actually be able to sit inside some of these cars, collect the autographs of the drivers, have their photos taken with them, enjoy a BBQ lunch with one of the teams and of course catch the on track action too. They really will have a very cool day, I never tire of those smiles!” says Leah.
Project KPH was established by Rotorua woman Leah Evans in October 2007, taking two “rev heads” with Cerebral Palsy to Pukekohe for Round One of the NZV8 championship competition. Since then, eighty six children have participated in events across New Zealand and two were hosted on a once in a lifetime trip to Bathurst last October.
“It is our aim to by the end of the race season have hosted one hundred children on the programme nationwide. It’s looking like we might just reach that goal which combined with our huge Bathurst achievement last October – will be an excellent way to cap off the season” says Leah.
Project KPH will host a further seven children at the much anticipated Hamilton 400 in April.
“I’m proud of the fact that five of those spaces are going back to my own community. This is the big one, the event on any V8 Supercar enthusiast’s calendar. And believe me, these kids will be well pleased with what’s in store” grins a coy Evans.
Meantime it’s all set to happen for eight lucky kids at Taupo Motorsport Park this weekend.
Project KPH is a charitable trust which enables children living with special needs to experience the thrill of motorsport, up close and personal, without the fear of stigma or negative attention.
