Irresistible Tua De Force Meets Immovable Object – On Maori Television!
Team Tua admits everything is riding on his heavyweight clash with Friday “The 13th” Ahunanya, which will be broadcast exclusive, free-to-air and live on Maori Television’s TUA DE FORCE, on Wednesday March 31 from 8.00 PM.
American trainer Roger Bloodworth, who is in Aotearoa to train David Tua before his 12-round bout at the Trusts’ Stadium in Waitakere, spoke exclusively to Maori Television’s Hyundai CODE.
He says preparation has been going well. “Everything is riding on this fight. Everything rides on every fight, especially with the political conditions. You know, you’ve got the sport of boxing, you’ve got the business of boxing, you’ve got the politics of boxing and they all have to come together at the same time. And I think this year is going to be a good time for David. He just has to win.”
Tua – who has beaten four world champions – made boxing fans sit up and take notice after his sensational second-round knockout of Shane “The Mountain Warrior” Cameron in October 2009.
Bloodworth believes the Cameron fight gives Tua a good platform for the upcoming clash with Ahunanya. Their preparation has stayed the same, with a slight lift in intensity. The trainer rates the US-based Nigerian heavyweight highly, and sees his ability to take a punch as his greatest strength. “He’s a tough guy. Nobody’s ever knocked him down, nobody’s ever knocked him out, so he’ll be a true test.”
Forty-three of David Tua’s 51 wins have been by knock out. The Samoan boxing sensation admits a KO holds some appeal. “Yeah, it’d be nice. But I think the most important thing is to win.”
His approach going into the fight is to focus on the present. He says: “I think the most important thing is one fight at a time. We’ve got Friday “The 13th” to concentrate on, and I guess the whole approach is to rename him Wednesday the 31st.”
Maori Television chief executive Jim Mather is looking forward to the heavyweight bout. “It’s a case of irresistible force meeting immovable object – one of the greatest power punchers of the day against someone who has never been knocked out.”
Maori Television is proud to support Tua’s boxing career as a broadcast partner.
“This is not a one-sided relationship, as some media reports have suggested. We have been in partnership with David Tua since 2007 when David’s career was at a low ebb. The exclusive broadcast arrangement that we have with David is a reflection of the commitment that both Maori Television and David have demonstrated towards each other,” says Mather. “Our support has never been about short-term gain but about long-term commitment. We want to see David achieve his dream of becoming world heavyweight champion because of the many challenges he has overcome.”
“Our arrangement also ensures that all New Zealanders will have the opportunity to be part of TUA DE FORCE as David takes the next steps in his journey to the heavyweight title. Our broadcasts will be free-to-air, making it possible for everyone to support and enjoy the experience of watching one of the finest athletes New Zealand has produced.”
Get ready to rumble when David Tua takes on Friday “The 13th” Ahunanya in TUA DE FORCE, on Maori Television on Wednesday March 31 from 8.00 PM.
