Phantom Flights at Pixel Ink Gallery

Phantom Flights at Pixel Ink Gallery

Contemporary abstract artist Lauren McGrath will open her latest exhibition at the new Pixel Ink Gallery on Wednesday the 14th of April at 5.30pm.

The exhibition titled Phantom Flights explores the displacement of the significance of objects in traditional landscape painting.

Featured is a series of new and retrospective abstract paintings from 2007 to the present.

McGrath describes the works as fantastical landscapes of surreal, textured beauty, which are vibrant and evocative.

“Each painting is a combination of layered colour, texture and medium”, says McGrath.

McGrath graduated from Massey University, Wellington in 2009 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

She has previously exhibited in a number of group shows at Pixel Ink Gallery however this will be her first solo show.

Gallery director, Rosalind Clark said that McGrath's surreal and dreamlike landscapes complement the illustrative artwork typically exhibited at the gallery.

The Pixel Ink Gallery recently relocated from Newtown to Cuba Street.
