Ski Resort manager bares all for Gay Ski Week N

PRESS RELEASE For immediate use 20 May 2010

Ski Resort manager bares all for Gay Ski Week NZ

A Wanaka ski resort manager has stripped on the job to show his support for Gay Ski Week NZ.

Snow Park NZ operations manager Sam Lee, pictured, first got the idea for the cheeky campaign in 2009. “I had to take lead and one afternoon stripped down to make it happen,” he says. However, their local media would not run the picture, as it was a bit too naughty, so the campaign quickly came to a stop.

Lee saw Gay Ski Week NZ 2010 as the perfect opportunity to show all his glory to the world. “It’s great to have events such as Gay Ski Week NZ going on in the town and from what I hear it’s loads of fun, no matter what team you bat for.”

Lee said it was loads of fun taking the pictures but because of the cold they encountered some problems.

“We did have a photo from the other side but because of the cold it needed some serious airbrushing and won’t be used,” he laughs.

There are a series of photographs which involve the staff being naked and going around the mountain doing their work, so watch out for more photos to be released. “The energy and celebration around the Southern Lakes during the festival is awesome. Snow Park is really excited to be part of the fun for the first time this year,” he says. Snow Park NZ has become the ultimate freestyle playground that offers jumps, rails, boxes, wall rides and New Zealand’s only quarter pipe. The park is suited to all levels of ability and has massive speakers that pump out the tunes across the field.

Gay Ski Week NZ 2010, September 4 – 12, will turn eight this year and is held in the South Island ski resort of Queenstown.

Skiing/boarding is the main attraction of Gay Ski Week NZ, but there is plenty of official night time action to keep the guests happy, plus daytime events for people who don’t ski. Highlight events on the schedule this year include the Cowboy Dinner, Retro Bowling, Snow Gaymes, Big Gay Out, Karaoke Night, Play Day, Undy Run, Buff Party and the closing White Out Party with Sydney DJ Kitty Glitter behind the decks.

Gay Ski Week NZ organiser Mike Sanford says it’s exciting to have Snow Park NZ involved in the action of the event.

“It’s gonna be awesome and we love it when people get creative and support the event.” Bookings are already up on last year and more than 800 people are expected this year. The event schedule is packed full and each year new events are introduced. “Seeing him in the buff, gave us the idea to have the Undy Run at the Snow Park and it will be mayhem,” he says.
