Trip of a Lifetime for 30 Students
Trip of a Lifetime for 30 Students
30 students have won a voyage on the Spirit of New Zealand through Gasoline Alley’s “Phil’s Big Kiwi Adventure” promotion, after over 155 schools entered the community-minded essay competition.
Its been a story of sausies, success and awesome support. GAS entrepreneur Phil Murray has completed his “Big Kiwi Adventure” of the country, and 30 communities have been impacted by one of their local teens winning a Spirit of Adventure Trust scholarship. Coromandel, in particular, exceededexpectations with 300 kids from the local school and several members of the community showing up.
The enthusiasm around the country for the promotion and the teens’ ideas is a great result for the Spirit of Adventure Trust and Gasoline Alley. There has also been tremendous support from the media, particularly in “heartland” communities. It encourages us that these community-minded initiatives won’t stop at just ideas, and we look forward to seeing them come to life.

About Phil’s Big Kiwi
Adventure
Petrol retailer Gasoline Alley
gave 30 New Zealand teens the adventure of a lifetime by
sending them on a Spirit of New Zealand voyage. To win,
teenagers aged 15-18 had to write a 300-word essay entitled
“One big idea that will make our community a better place
to live in,” and the winners have been selected by region.
Throughout April and May, Phil Murray took a road trip
around the country in his Holden ute, handing out freebies,
hosting sausage sizzles at GAS stations, and presenting the
prizes to the lucky recipient from each
town.
