A Comedian, Some Hairclippers And An Airplane

NEWS RELEASE
24 May 2010

What do you get when you cross a comedian with hair clippers and an airplane?

The hair-raising plane ride of a lifetime for a bunch of adventurous Kiwis to New Zealand’s most exciting winter destination.

And it’s all free – with a catch. Comedian Jeremy Corbett, all passengers and crew aboard the Air New Zealand ‘Sky High Shave’ flight on 27 June will lose their hair in support of the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation (LBF).

This flight to the annual Winterfest will be one its passengers will never forget. While in the air, a team of highly-skilled hairdressers will relieve everyone on board of their hair. Fingers crossed there’s no turbulence!

More FM breakfast presenter and 7 Days host Jeremy Corbett - who had to get special permission from his TV3 bosses - is putting his mane up for the chop before he performs at the comedy events showing at Winterfest.

“We’ll be 10,000 meters in the air having a great time while raising money for the 10,000 Kiwis living with blood cancers. That’s a pretty good reason for shaving your head – plus we get a free flight!” says Corbett.

The LBF is calling on brave punters to invest in a good beanie, to keep their heads warm while they are in Queenstown, and join a plane full of other fun seekers on the flight.

To participate, people must call Air New Zealand on 0800 747 222 to reserve their seat on the flight. They must also register with the “Sky High Shave” group on the Shave website (shaveforacure.co.nz) and aim to fundraise $500 through sponsorship.

About the LBF
The Leukaemia & Blood Foundation is the national charity dedicated to supporting patients and their families living with blood cancers and related blood conditions. The LBF does not receive government funding and is therefore totally reliant on money raised through its events such as Shave.

The LBF is seeking 10,000 New Zealanders to shave their heads during ‘Shave for a Cure’, LBF’s annual fundraising event.

All funds raised through Shave10 will go directly to the LBF’s core services including: patient support, research, information, awareness and advocacy. The LBF provides vital assistance to patients and their families during their most challenging times.
