Kids get Snowed In at the YMCA

25st May 2009

MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE USE

Kids get Snowed In at the YMCA

It’s a Mid-Winter Christmas this July at the YMCA Holiday Programme. Santa is making a special stop in Tauranga and he has toys for all the boys and girls on his good list!

Kids get into your snow suits, put on your gloves and zip up your winter jackets for because the YMCA is bringing in 3 tons of snow just for snowball fights, snow angels and igloo making!

But that’s not all! The YMCA schedule includes other exciting choices such as kung fu ninja training, Zumba, 3D Movies, gigantic soccer ball games and best of all-- a trip to Mount Ruapehu for sledding and snowmen making!

“We always try to offer exciting and unique experiences for our children at the YMCA” says Keeley Ferguson, Holiday Programme Coordinator. “It’s exciting introducing children to new experiences that they may not have anywhere else.”

Keeley encourages all children aged 5- 13 years to join the YMCA this winter, “it is a great place for kids to make new friends, challenge themselves and do something unique and fun!”

The YMCA offers several options to cater for different ages, locations and wallets. Y-ZONE programmes, in Papamoa and Gate Pa, are centre-based and provide loads of fun activities such as arts & craft, sport, wood shop, challenges, cooking and more, all for just $34 per day. Families eligible for WINZ could pay as little as $3.50 per child for a whole week of care.

The programmes at Memorial Hall and the Mount Sports Centre include adventure-filled excursions, around town and beyond, to locations such as hot pools, the Classic Flyers plane museum, and Miranda Hot Springs in Thames! The programme takes kids to see the latest movies and they even provide the 3D glasses--all for just $40 per day! Again, WINZ subsidies are available for the excursion programmes as well.

The deadline for this Winter Holidays is the 25th June. Information on the programme and how to book can be found at www.ymcatauranga.org.nz .

About YMCA Tauranga

To us, it’s all about showing your spirit. Ask yourself, when was the last time you showed yours?
Most people hold tightly onto theirs, often too shy to release it. Some people let their spirit run wild, and sometimes have to rein it in- and we meet tonnes of people who have just never been shown how to find theirs. You also get the occasional person who reckons they are just saving their spirit for later.
At the YMCA we work with people to help find their spirit, so they can make the most of their experience and unleash their potential on the world around them.
The YMCA Tauranga provides great opportunities for people of all ages to participate in education and sport and recreational activities in the Western Bay of Plenty. We embrace the National YMCA vision to build strong kids, strong families, strong communities and incorporate our core values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all that we do.

YMCA Tauranga is an affiliate of The National Council of YMCA's of New Zealand, and the World Alliance of YMCAs.
