ATC, the company that introduced Auckland to the Young & Hungry Festival in 2009 is once again bringing it back. Experience Kiwi kids lost in translation in Exchange and watch the absurdity reach new heights when singing rabbits challenge John Banks to be the Super Mayor in Fitz Bunny Lust for Glory and become best mates with clueless apple pickers in the middle of nowhere in Thinning.

Best friends Isaac, Troy, Adam, Lily, Billie and Fraggle leave their city lives behind and go apple picking for one last summer together. Apple thinning provides the backdrop as these close friends hook-up, fall in love, get drunk, fall out, come out and break out.

Thinning, a new play by Eli Kent explores the limbo time between the end of high school and the start of ‘real life’. At only 21 years old Kent is fast establishing himself as one of the country’s most significant young playwrights. His first play, Rubber Turkey won the 2008 Chapmann Tripp award for Outstanding New Playwright. His follow up, The Intricate Art of Actually Caring (2009 NZ Fringe Awards – Best Theatre and 2009 Chapmann Tripp winner – Most Original Production) is further proof of Kent’s talent for bringing to life the voice of Generation Y.

Laurel Devenie makes her Young & Hungry directing debut with Thinning. Recently seen in ATC’s production of The importance of Being Earnest as Cecily. A graduate of Toi Whakaari, Laurel has worked extensively as an actor throughout the country working with Downstage Theatre, Peripeteia Players, and touring with Capital E: National theatre for children.

Thinning gets to the core of New Zealand youth. Get ready to laugh, cringe, cry and laugh some more as a hugely talented ‘young & hungry’ cast takes you on a wild theatrical ride that won’t forget to remind you of a younger you!
