Second annual Kumeu Art in the Garden festival
Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the second annual Kumeu Art in the Garden festival which will include a leading singer and some celebrities later this year.
The November 6 and 7 is expected to include live music this year and involve celebrities for a charity auction.
Organiser Graham McIntyre said the event would have much more to offer festival-goers this year other than art and looking at prize-winning gardens.
``People like live music so we are responding to their wishes to make this a must-see event in November. We are also looking at a charity auction with some celebrities happy to play their part.’’
Over 100 local, regional and national artists will be producing works especially for the November festival.
Waimauku gardeners Jill and Vern Warren have already won Kumeu’s best garden award with runners-up being Ashcombe of Coatesville Riverhead highway and Willows Reach of Boord Crescent, Kumeu. The third annual Kumeu best garden competition runs from October 1 to November 30 and is open to all gardens in the north west area.
Four of the best gardens from 2009 are on display throughout the festival. All proceeds will go to the Kumeu-Huapai volunteer fire rescue, the West Auckland Hospice and to Kumeu community policing. A total of $9000 was donated to the fire and hospice organisations from last year.
About 1000 people attended the inaugural event last year but the numbers are expected to double this year.
