Global exposure for Whanganui sculptor
Global exposure for Whanganui sculptor
Art work by the Head of Sculpture at Whanganui UCOL’s Quay School of the Arts Brit Bunkley is on show in both Basel in Switzerland and in Sydney, a rare achievement for a New Zealand artist.
Brit has a video work in a show called
A Light at the End of the Tunnel featured at
SCOPE Basel in Switzerland, part of “the most global art
show in the world”. SCOPE Basel established its name by
curating cutting edge contemporary art from around the world
and runs concurrently with the prestigious Art
Basel.
A Light at the End of the Tunnel
is described by its curators as “an epic video art trilogy
about the human condition, including seminal works by 30
international emerging artists chosen based on an open call
from over 200 submissions.”
SCOPE Basel, including the video exhibition, runs from 15 – 19 June.
Brit’s work
is also featured in a Sydney exhibition called Inside
Out, an innovative show of miniature sculptures produced
using rapid prototyping technology. He is one of 46
designers from Australia, New Zealand and the Britain to
feature work in the exhibition which allowed artists to
explore emerging digital design possibilities in resin as a
medium.
Brit’s artwork for the
Sydney show is a small head created from a 3D digital file
with flowers “embossed” on the surface. The piece has
been “printed” in resin in Australia specifically for
the show which opened on 5 June at Object’s Project Space
in Sydney.
Inside Out runs until 25
July in Australia and will then tour the United Kingdom.
