Governor-General Congratulates All Whites
Greetings, Kia Ora, Kia Orana, Fakalofa Lahi Atu, Taloha Ni.
It is with great pleasure that I send my congratulations to the New Zealand Football team competing in South Africa for their achievement in their first game of the FIFA 2010 World Cup.
The game in Rustenburg saw the All Whites win their first ever point in a World Cup competition, when they achieved a draw against a far more highly ranked team from Slovakia.
That the All Whites levelled the score in the final minutes reflects the team’s determination and character and the skills of the individual players. It also speaks highly of the training by the coaching team and the support from New Zealand Football.
The All Whites’ achievement has been long sought by Kiwi fans of the game and augurs well for the ongoing success of soccer.
As Governor-General and Patron of New Zealand Football, I congratulate coach Ricki Herbert, captain Ryan Nelsen and all the members of the All Whites squad and wish them all the best for the remainder of the ongoing campaign.
No reira, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, kia ora, kia kaha, tēnā koutou katoa.
Hon Sir Anand
