Levin’s Lucky Chicken Results in $40,000 Nest Egg

Whilst Germany relies on the fortune-telling predictions of an octopus, a Levin local relies upon his chickens.

A Levin man knew he was onto a lucky streak when his pet chickens laid an extra unexpected egg – so later that day he brought a $3 Instant Kiwi Pick of the Bunch ticket, which then resulted in a $40,000 nest egg win.

The winner, who wanted to be known as Roger, is a regular Lotto and Instant Kiwi player.

“I knew it was going to be a good day, when I got my extra egg from my three chooks. My wife told me since I was having such a lucky day I had better go and buy our Lotto and scratchie tickets for the week”, laughs Roger.

“Unfortunately, the week before one of my chooks died and the others had stopped laying so I knew that I had to be onto a good thing when they started laying again and I got my extra egg!” says Roger.

Roger and his wife plan to spend their winnings on paying off their credit card and buying a fifty inch plasma television to celebrate his birthday next week.

“My wife’s the boss of the bank account, but I’ve already gone and checked out prices for my new TV!” he laughs.

Roger purchased the winning Instant Kiwi ticket from his local store, Levin Mall Lotto.

His win was the third top prize of $40,000 to be won on the Instant Kiwi $3 Pick of the Bunch ticket.

At the end of May, NZ Lotteries launched a new range of attractive new Instant Kiwi games in the biggest revamp of Instant Kiwi in 20 years.

More than $33 million is available in prizes to players from the first 12 new games alone, with more than twice as many $20 prizes compared to the previous games.
