Young freestylers get set for first race of the season
The Remarkables is gearing up for high flying park action next weekend with the first of the season’s popular Parklife Youth Mini Shred competition series.
The annual freestyle series kicks off on Saturday 17 July at the Tararua Real Ice Coffee (TRIC) Beginner Park and welcomes young skiers and boarders of all abilities.
In the first round of the series, skiers and boarders aged 16 and under compete for a massive pack of cool prizes and the opportunity to advance to the next stage. The second and final rounds will take place at The Remarkables on Sunday 19 September.
Ross Lawrence, Ski Area Manager, said the Parklife Mini Shred was all about getting the younger players involved and supporting them with a competition that is fun and not at all intimidating.
“The Mini Shred takes place in the awesome environment of the TRIC Beginner Park and gives kids a chance to push their boundaries a little, get inspired by others and have a great day,” he said. “The course isn’t too challenging and is a pretty chilled out atmosphere so kids are free to shine with their talent.”
Mr Lawrence said he was really proud of the youth event which had grown to be one of the most popular competitions on the freestyling calendar.
“The kids love it because it gives them the chance to compete in a mellow and supportive environment,” he added. “Plus, The Remarkables is home to some of the best terrain parks in the country and has a great progression of features making it the ideal place to learn and improve freestyling skills.”
There are three categories - Under 16, Under 14 and Under 12 - for both male and female skiers and snowboarders with a range of prizes from sponsors Nature’s Energy, Streets, Tararua Real Iced Coffee and The Remarkables up for grabs.
