Original Waiata and a Story of Music and Love on Stage for Going West Books and Writers Festival 2010

A beautiful story weaving the beauty of original waiata with a story of love and music comes to West Auckland as part of Going West Books and Writers Festival 2010.

Tawata Productions presents He Reo Aroha – Words of Love – in its first full Auckland season at the Glen Eden Playhouse Theatre from 25 to 28 August.

Written by Miria George and Jamie McCaskill and directed by Hone Kouka, He Reo Aroha tells the story of two childhood sweethearts, Kaia and Pascoe – a pair who were always worlds apart. Kaia trains to sing, grooming her voice for greatness; while Pascoe works on the fishing boats with his father, a song never far from his lips. One summer’s night their voices entwine, sealing a love that will last a lifetime.

Choosing music over love, Kaia heads for New York, while broken-hearted while Pascoe follows in his father’s footsteps. But when life doesn’t bring Kaia and Pascoe all they hoped for, they discover it is music that gets them through and love brings them back together.

This love story, featuring original music by Hone Hurihanganui, Kali Kopae and Jamie McCaskill, has enjoyed successful seasons in Australia, Canada and at the NZ International Arts Festival 2010.
