Gorillaz Confirm Special Guests

Gorillaz Confirm Special Guests

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Thursday 5th August, 2010

The cat’s out of the bag and it’s no longer a secret. Yes, the rumours were true… on Thursday 22nd August, Chugg Entertainment confirmed that Gorillaz will be making their first ever trip to Australasia for their arena tour in December 2010.

As part of their Plastic Beach world tour, Gorillaz will be playing 20 shows across North America and 10 nights in Europe before going to Asia for the first time ever, and then heading south for the winter where their journey will conclude with a string of dynamic shows in Australia and New Zealand.

Longtime Murdoc Niccals delegates, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett have created a live show around the band’s three records, their very first being a headline performance at the Coachella Festival in USA in April of this year which was met with overwhelming praise. They’ve since gone on to play in front of hordes of fans in their headlining appearances at Glastonbury, Roskilde in Denmark and Benicassim in Spain, and in late July became the first major Western band to play in Syria when they played the ancient Citadel in Damascus, following a sold at show at the Byblos Festival in Beirut.

The live show is a wild and organic experience, with the Gorillaz band holding things down behind many featured artists and video animation, artwork and stage design by Gorillaz director and collaborator Jamie Hewlett. While Gorillaz members Murdoc Niccals and Co have so far been thwarted in their attempts to appear on stage, the Gorillaz live band includes Damon Albarn, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon (The Clash), Mike Smith, Cass Browne, Jeff Wootton and Gabriel Manuals Wallace, as well as additional backing singers, brass sections and a full string ensemble. Confirmed special guests on their Australasian jaunt include De La Soul, Hypnotic Brass, Bobby Womack, the Syrian National Orchestra of Arabic Music, Bootie Brown, Little Dragon and Rosile Wilson. With more guests to be announced soon…

Gorillaz released their third album Plastic Beach in March of this year. The album swept charts around the world with fantastic reviews across the board. Gorillaz characters Murdoc, Noodle, 2D and Russell Hobbs escaped the underworld Kong Studio – home to previous Gorillaz multi platinum chart toppers Demon Days and Gorillaz – to set up shop on a remote island in the Pacific. Lead by Stylo (the video starring Bruce Willis), the album features the tracks Superfast Jelly Fish (feat. De La Soul), Rhinestone Eyes and Melancholy Hill, the first commercial single from Plastic Beach, which is available in Australia now digitally.

Tickets start at $99.90 for Silver, $119.90 for Gold and for $295 fans can get the VIP package which includes one premium reserved ticket located close to the stage or one GA ticket, specially designed Gorillaz concert shirt, limited edition print (numbered and exclusive to VIP packages only), official Gorillaz tour laminate and an exclusive Gorillaz sew-on patch.

Do not delay in securing your tickets to see this monumental live event.
