Rhythm & Vines Announces First Line-Up For 2010
N*E*R*D, Justice (DJ set), Shihad, Chromeo, Boys Noize and more!
The wait is over. Rhythm & Vines, New Zealand’s biggest and best New Years Eve festival, are proud to announce the first instalment of their mega three-day line-up for 2010!
N*E*R*D, Justice (DJ set), Shihad, Chromeo, Boys Noize, Tinie Tempah, Mystery Jets, High Contrast, Miami Horror, Hollie Smith, BARB, P Money, Electric Wire Hustle, Optimus Gryme and Our:House Presents.
A hybrid of rock 'n roll, funk and hip-hop, R&B, pop, country, blues and even sci-fi, international superstars N*E*R*D fronted by none other than Pharrell Williams are set to explode on the main stage.
Fresh from the release their fourth album NOTHING, the American trio who have toured with the likes of Kanye West, Rihanna and Lupe Fiasco will perform in New Zealand for the first time after having to cancel in 2009.
French chart toppers Justice bring their own brand of electro dance to R&V with massive tracks like D.A.N.C.E and DVNO in which “the melodies are ripped to shreds by the beats, electro teaches rock a lesson and pop gets a botox injection.”
Joining them on the dance tip are Canadian electrofunk groovers Chromeo, German electro producer and DJ Boys Noize and Aussie disco-house throwback stylers Miami Horror.
English indie band Mystery Jets are back in Gisborne after a memorable performance in 2008. This quirky quartet will be touring on the back of their infectious ‘Dreaming of Another World’ single that perhaps sums up the unique R&V experience.
The UK’s number one grime artist, rapper Tinie Tempah makes his first trip to our shores, while Welsh drum and base DJ and producer High Contrast returns with his innovative style of production fusing everything from jazz and funk, to film soundtracks and disco.
From closer to home are Kiwi rock heavyweights Shihad who take us into midnight on New Year’s Eve. Super-cool new super-group BARB is the new baby of local darlings Liam Finn, Lawrence Arabia, Eliza-Jane, Seamus Ebbs and Connan Mockasin.
One of the founding fathers of New Zealand dub step, Optimus Gryme spearheads a popular new genre appearing at the festival this summer, while homegrown party brand Our:House hosts the Cellar stage on New Year’s Eve.
Developing their own sound and twist on modern hip-hop, psychedelic and soul, Electric Wire Hustle will have your neck snapping while your ears crane to its soulful vocals.
And back because we love them so much are P Money and Hollie Smith, both fresh off their new album releases.
Stay tuned for more artists to be announced in October, along with details of which days/nights artists will be performing over the three days of the Festival.
Tickets go on sale through Ticketek www.ticketek.co.nz on Friday 13 August at 9am. Visa Entertainment is offering Visa Cardholders the exclusive opportunity to purchase tickets at discounted Black Friday prices on Friday 13 August only – see more information below.
New this year, R&V is doing its bit for the environment and on the path to becoming carbon neutral. Ticket purchasers can offset their carbon emission by paying an extra $4.50 that will go towards planting a tree at a new R&V Forest in the Gisborne region – stay tuned for more information on this in coming weeks.
Nestled amongst rolling hills and the vines of picturesque Waiohika Estate, Gisborne, Rhythm & Vines is the first place in the world to see the sun rise and the finest location in the land for a party.
With the line-up only part of the R&V experience, camping is available either onsite at R&V Onsite Camping or at BW Campgrounds at Waikanae Beach in Gisborne.
Set in the vines onsite at Waiohika Estate, R&V Onsite Camping is a premium R20 camping experience right next to the Festival action enjoyed by around 2,000 campers.
A festival in its own right, BW Campgrounds on Waikanae Beach offers its 10,000 R18 campers daytime activities such as wakeboarding and bikini competitions, and its own stellar line-up of international and local artists.
This year’s BW line-up includes legendary UK dance act The Freestylers and local acts Kora, The Black Seeds, Sola Rosa, The Checks, P-Money, State of Mind (Live), The Upbeats and Mt Eden Dub Step with more to be announced.
For those who prefer a little luxury, there are hotel and holiday homes options available via our accommodation partner Posh and Pooh. All accommodation options fill up fast, so go to www.rhythmandvines.co.nz for more information and get in quick to secure your choice.
Still on the luxury theme, the VIP Lounge Experience is back after last year’s resounding success. With limited tickets available, lucky VIP ticket holders get to rub shoulders with artists, media and other VIPs in a separate area overlooking the main stage with its own luxury toilets, bar and food stands. Sounds pretty good huh?
And finally, do you have what it takes to be the R&V Protégé? New this year, R&V is on the hunt for the ultimate understudy to work alongside our team and learn the ins and outs of putting on a music festival. If this sounds like you, check out our Facebook page for more information on entering.
With a killer three day line-up and five days of the best Kiwi acts at BW Campgrounds, R&V is proud to offer what’s undoubtedly the most rocking New Year’s week of music in Aotearoa.
Get your ticket, book your accommodation and tell your friends, and stay tuned for more awesome artists in our second line-up announcement in October!
