Radio Heritage Welcomes 550,000 New Zealand SuperGold Card Holders
WELLINGTON
The Radio Heritage Foundation now offers free introductory supporter membership to over 550,000 New Zealanders who hold the SuperGold Card or the Veteran SuperGold Card.
"It's important to recognize that times are a bit tough for many of these half million plus Kiwis, who've made radio the soundtrack of their lives since the 1920's" says spokesman David Ricquish.
"From today's crowded radio dial and personalities to pirate Radio Hauraki, back through the Fab 50 Top Hat Club shows, the fabulous radio serials, the days of Aunt Daisy, local song contests and studio sing-a-longs to the Friendly Road and more, radio has been an integral part of their lives and our popular culture."
"We'd like to have them actively involved in sharing memories and stories with younger Kiwis and offer them a safe place for their own radio memorabilia, recordings and other items that are easily lost when they move or might be tossed out by younger family members who don't appreciate their significance" he added.
As a largely volunteer organization, the Radio Heritage Foundation is also looking forward to welcoming new volunteers with the interest, skills and time to help on all sorts of projects.
Hundreds of hours of historic audio on reel-to-reel tapes for example need people with old tape recorders who can also digitize them and have the patience to transcribe them.
In Christchurch, volunteers are needed to help restore the original 3ZB transmitter and studio building and operate a new local low power FM community station planned for the building along with displays about radio history in the city.
SuperGold Card holders can sign up at www.radioheritage.net or send their name and address directly to the Radio Heritage Foundation, PO Box 20024, Newtown, Wellington 6242.
