Wairakei Hosts Golf Marrowthon

On Friday 8 October, Wairakei International Golf Course will host its first ever Golf Marrowthon 100 Hole Challenge. Golfers will tee off at the prestigious Taupo golf course to raise funds for the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation.

The Golf Marrowthon 100 Hole Challenge is a unique charity golf event famed for attracting professional golfers, celebrities and golf enthusiasts alike. Golfers from all handicap levels are welcomed to test their skill and endurance in the ultimate challenge of playing 100 holes in a single day.

The LBF Executive Director, Pru Etcheverry said: “We are absolutely honoured and delighted for the opportunity to hold this event at Wairakei. It promises to be a fabulous day on what is arguably New Zealand’s most beautiful course.”

The event target is to raise $100,000 for the LBF’s Support Services programme which provides regular home and hospital visits and contact, education sessions, printed information and an online information forum for patients and their families living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood conditions.

Etcheverry said: “We are ever grateful and appreciative of the generosity which helps us to continue supporting patients and their families living with blood cancers and conditions.”

The Golf Marrowthon 100 Hole Challenge has previously been held at Auckland Airport, Tirau and Clearwater in Christchurch. The event has seen the likes of legendary golfer Sir Bob Charles; former All Blacks Robbie Deans, Steve Surridge and Scott Robertson; former Black Caps captain, Stephen Fleming; cricketers Nathan Astle and Craig McMillan and TVNZ presenter Peter Williams.
