UCOL Fine Arts lecturers in Wallace finals
UCOL Fine Arts lecturer Andrea du Chatenier and former lecturer and graduate Matt Couper have reached the finals of New Zealand’s top art awards, for the second year in a row.
Andrea de Chatenier took one
of the highest awards in the 2007 Wallace Awards.
UCOL
graduate Tom Turner is also a finalist this year.
Acting
Head of Creative Programmes at Whanganui UCOL, Sally-Jane de
Salazar, says reaching the finals of the premier Wallace
Awards is in itself an honour and reflects the quality of
teaching at UCOL’s Quay School of the Arts.
The Awards,
amounting to over $160,000, will be announced and presented
on Monday, 6 September at the TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre
in Auckland.
An exhibition of winners and selected finalists will be open to the public at the Arts Centre after the judging. The exhibition will also show at TheNewDowse in Wellington in October.
Fine Arts lecturer Brit Bunkley, part time lecturer Andrea Gardner and graduate Karin Strachan were also finalists in the Bold Horizons National Contemporary Art Awards for 2010. Their work is currently on show in Hamilton.
