Rugby World Cup Heineken Trophy Tour

Former Rugby Great Leads Nation-Wide Rugby World Cup Heineken Trophy Tour

Former New Zealand test captain Taine Randell will lead a different type of tour this month as he heads around New Zealand and hosts the Rugby World Cup Tour presented by Heineken.

Randell, who played 61 games for the All Blacks including 51 tests, will be reunited with the Cup his team narrowly missed out on winning during the Rugby World Cup 1999 campaign.

The former Highlanders and Otago player left New Zealand to play for Saracens before working in the oil trade in the UK until 2008 when he returned to New Zealand. He now lives in Havelock North with his wife and three young children and works as a commodities broker.

Randell says he’s honoured to have been appointed Heineken Trophy Tour Ambassador and is looking forward to introducing Kiwis to the Cup next month.

“The Webb Ellis Cup is one of the world’s most recognized sporting Trophies but it’s rare for the public to be able to view it in person. Thanks to Heineken though, Kiwis from Whangarei to Invercargill will be able to do just that as I travel with it around New Zealand and talk about some of the great stories behind the Cup and Rugby World Cup.”

Randell kicks off the Heineken tour on Friday 24th September, visiting 13 towns and cities from Whangarei to Invercargill before a final night in Auckland.

The Trophy events will be staged at Heineken aligned bars and open to the public. Those aged 18 and under will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Heineken marketing manager, Luke Rive says the tour is just one of the many activities Heineken has planned ahead of Rugby World Cup 2011.

“Heineken is a Worldwide Partner and the official beer of Rugby World Cup 2011 and we have some very exciting events planned to showcase the Heineken Experience to New Zealanders over the coming 12 months. The purpose of this tour however is to share great Rugby stories among friends through the ultimate Rugby experience – a legendary player, the world’s most prized sporting Trophy – and great beer.”
