Milestone Year For Local Film Festival

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MONDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER

Celebrating Short Films – Milestone Year For Local Film Festival

This November the Show Me Shorts Film Festival celebrates its fifth birthday; claiming its place as a regular anticipated fixture on the national film festival circuit. Festival Director Gina Dellabarca says, “Selecting our programme line up this year has been the toughest and most rewarding yet due to increased numbers of entries from filmmakers with an ever-increasing level of skill and inventiveness.”

Show Me Shorts Film Festival is a travelling festival of the best 40 short films from Australia and New Zealand. The films are divided into six themed sessions, which will be announced along with the selected films in early October.

The fifth annual Show Me Shorts Film Festival kicks off as usual with a glamorous opening and awards night on November 4th at Auckland’s Academy Cinemas, where audience members attending will have the chance to see the eight winning films and celebrate with the filmmakers. The total prize pool is valued at over $10,000, with the major award for Kodak Best Film taking away enough reels of Kodak motion picture film to shoot their next short film.

Building on the success of the hugely popular 2009 workshops, the film-going public is invited to attend short filmmaking seminars during the festival in Auckland and Wellington. These will include screenings of award winning short films and question and answer sessions with their creators. With the support of the NZ Film Commission and in partnership with Script to Screen, festival organisers have this year also launched an inaugural Short Film Lab, inspired by those run by major A-list film festivals like Sundance.
