New Zealand Society UK, launches Canterbury Earthquake Fund with stg5000 donation
The New Zealand Society in the UK today
launched a Canterbury earthquake fund with a stg5000
donation to start with.
The society had been inundated with requests from New Zealanders and New Zealand organisations in London seeking a way to make a donation, society president Michelle Marsh said today.
Setting up the fund will allow those in the UK who wish to make a donation, but don’t have a New Zealand bank account, to make a contribution to the recovery and rebuilding of the areas affected by the earthquakes. The New Zealand Society will cover the handling fees of making a donation to the fund and the transfer the money back to New Zealand.
Marsh said that “most Kiwis here in the UK either have family or friends who were affected by the earthquakes and that we all wanted to do what we could to assist those living with the aftermath of what was one of the world’s biggest earthquakes”.
She also announced proceeds of a raffle at the next two New Zealand Society events, the Quiz night on September 23 and the Kiwi Oktoberfest on October 14 would also be donated to the fund.
Donations of stg180 from the New Zealand Business Women’s Network and stg500 from the New Zealand Women’s Association have already been made to the fund and donations from other Kiwis, New Zealand associations/organisations and businesses are expected. Donations can be made via: www.nzsociety.co.uk
