David Helfgott is considered a living legend. His extraordinary talent as a pianist was recognised at a very early age and he studied at London’s Royal College of Music. In the 1970’s, mental illness overtook his life, but he made a triumphant return to the world stage in the 1980’s with sold-out concerts across Australia, a European tour and a series of CDs.
The 1996 movie Shine told his incredible story with actor Geoffrey Rush winning an Oscar for his astonishingly accurate portrayal of David. He has since performed concerts around the world, selling out the Sydney Opera House four nights in a row and performing to a capacity audience and standing ovation at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
