Sale St to host inaugural Art for Artists Sake auction
Sale St transforms from bar and restaurant to art gallery next month as the popular Auckland venue plays host to the first ever Art for Artists Sake charity auction on 17 October.
Art for Artists Sake is a new concept that has been created by Aucklander Ren Kirk to help raise money for Youthline, New Zealand’s largest youth development and support service.
Sixteen Kiwi musicians have been asked to create a piece of art to be auctioned to the public. The art ranges from paintings and sculptures to photography. Artists contributing to the cause include Hollie Smith, Julia Deans and Riki Gooch.
According to established Kiwi songstress, Julia Deans, switching media from music to art was an interesting challenge. “For me, it’s really exciting to be involved in a project like this. Not only does it give artists a chance to express themselves in a completely different way, it also helps to support a great cause.”
The completed artwork will be displayed online at www.artforartistssake.com and at Sale St from 11 – 17 October with the public auction taking place at 5pm on Sunday 17 October.
Isaac Aesili from Opensouls will play a DJ set on the night of the auction while a special guest emcee will step up to help with emcee duties. Art & Object is also kindly providing one of their art auctioneer’s for the evening.
Sale St owner Luke Dallow says Sale St staff are delighted.to help out. “Youthline is a great cause and the work they do for Kiwi youth is invaluable. We’re sure it will be a great night and we hope everyone digs deep to help the cause.”
The sixteen NZ musicians contributing artworks for Art for Artists Sake are:
Anna Coddington, Adi Dick, Hollie Smith, Isaac Aesili, Iva Lamkum, Jade Pritchard, Julia Deans, Lewis McCallum, Lisa Crawley, Lisa Tomlins, Mara TK, Rhian Sheehan, Riki Gooch, Ruth Carr, Sacha Vee & Tim Guy.
