Press Release for SKYCITY

30 September 2010

Community organisations receive support grants

Forty-four community organisations in the Queenstown-Lakes District have received a combined $95,378.27 in this year’s SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Community Trust funding round.

Now in its eighth year, the Trust has donated over $900,000 to more than 249 community groups in the region as part of its commitment and contribution to the Queenstown community.

“We are proud to help improve community life and family well-being in Queenstown,” said Clark Pirie, Trust Chairman. “We are about supporting the community organisations that help make the Lakes District a great place to live.”

This year’s grants include $3000 to fund resources for new equipment for Arrowtown Scout Group, $1000 for the purchase of resources for the office library to Alzheimers Society Southland Inc, $2000 for the purchase of four netbook computers at Queenstown Primary, $1,500 for training and supervision of staff to Upper Clutha Women’s Support Group Inc and $2,500 to Wanakafest Community Trust Board, to

contribute towards the sound, lighting and printing cost of the 2011 festival.

Michelle Baillie, Executive Manager SKYCITY Queenstown, said she is delighted with the distribution of this year’s funds.

“We are proud to be able to give something back to the community that we are part of through the SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Community Trust. The Trustees, through their experience and careful consideration, have once again succeeded in helping a broad range of organisations and services and we look forward to seeing the benefits that our grants have brought to the recipients over the coming year,” she said.

Grant applications were decided by the panel of Trustees, Jim Ryan, Vicki Buckham, Kim Wilkinson of SKYCITY Queenstown Community Trust, alongside Trust Chairman Clark Pirie.

Grant recipients will be recognised and celebrated at a function at SKYCITY Queenstown Casino on October 6.

Applications for next year’s Trust grants will open again in June 2011.
