Bayfair Welcomes SPCA To
School Holiday Art Station
These school holidays,
Bayfair Shopping Centre is inviting children to embrace
their animal and artistic flair by entering an art
competition in support of SPCA Tauranga.
Children who wish to enter the competition can visit the Bayfair Art Station, located outside Farmers on weekdays from Monday 27 September to Friday 8 October and collect a free pack of 12 Faber-Castell Smart Crayons, paper and animal illustrations.
Entry into the competition is easy. All children need to do is draw their favourite animal from the examples provided and deliver their picture back to the Art Station in person. With three age groups and a fantastic prize pack for the winner of each, the art competition is sure to get those budding artists busy.
For every competition entry received, Bayfair Shopping Centre will donate 50 cents to SPCA Tauranga. Pet food bins and cash collection buckets will also be available for shopper donations.
The Bayfair Art Station, operating from 11am to 2pm, aims to encourage children to explore drawing while learning about pet care and animal education. In addition to the Bayfair Art Station, SPCA Tauranga Education Officer Nicolle Smith will be in-centre to give a 15-minute information show. Each day she will be accompanied by a very special SPCA animal.
The information shows will focus on the SPCA’s work in the local community and will provide tips for children on how to care for their pets. Come along on Monday, Tuesday and Friday for shows running from 11.30am to 11.45am, and on Wednesday and Thursday from 1.30pm to 1.45pm.
Bayfair Shopping Centre Marketing Manager Nina Rivett says, “We are excited to host SPCA Tauranga at Bayfair these school holidays and incorporate them in a fantastic holiday programme that is fun, creative and educational.
“The art station aims to provide a creative and educational programme about pet care that children can understand and put to use. With the help of the SPCA, we hope to encourage children to think about animals and the importance of treating them with kindness and respect.”
SPCA Tauranga Operations Manager Margaret Rawiri says, “This is a great programme and we are thrilled that Bayfair has thought of us once again and invited us to have a presence in-centre.
“This is a great opportunity for the SPCA to remind the community about basic pet care, from food, water and shelter to de-sexing.”
One child from each age group (three to six years, seven to 10 years, and 11 to 13 years) will receive a great prize for their selected artwork, including: an art set donated by Whitcoulls, Bayfair; $25 dollars worth of Bayfair gift vouchers; and a SPCA cap and water bottle.
If you have any questions regarding pet care, adoption, volunteer roles or the SPCA’s work, shoppers are encouraged meet with SPCA Tauranga Education Officer Nicolle Smith during the 15-minute sessions in-centre.
