Junior Kiwis & Aussies in curtain raiser

Junior Kiwis & Aussies in curtain raiser to NZ v PNG league test

ROTORUA 08.10.10: A match between the Junior Kiwis and Junior Kangaroos has been announced as the curtain raiser for the New Zealand v Papua New Guinea (PNG) rugby league test in Rotorua at the end of the month.

New Zealand’s Kiwis team will come up against PNG at Rotorua International Stadium on Saturday 30 October as part of this year’s Four Nations Championship, which also features Australia and England.

Events and Venues Rotorua general manager Peter McLeod says the trans-Tasman curtain raiser between the junior teams was a welcome addition to an already exciting night of football.

“The Kiwi/Aussie rivalry always promises to be a competitive and hard-hitting encounter, and we’re excited to be able to offer rugby league fans with a double dose of quality action.

“Rotorua is increasingly gaining a reputation as a rugby league stronghold, with a number of players from both teams boasting players with NRL experience.

“Nine players from the Vodafone Junior Warriors’ NYC premiership-winning side have been included in the 19-man Junior Kiwis squad for this month’s two-match series against the Junior Kangaroos."

The team will first meet the Australians on 23 October in the Kiwis v England curtain raiser in Wellington.

Gates open at the Rotorua International Stadium on Saturday 30 October at 3pm, before the Junior Kiwi v Junior Kangaroos curtain raiser kicks off at 4pm, followed by the NZ Kiwis v PNG test at 6pm.

Adult tickets are from $25 - $35, children (4 – 15) $15, and under 4s free. Anyone who purchases a ticket for the game at the Rotorua Convention Centre’s Ticketmaster outlet will go in the draw to win a signed NZ Rugby League Team jersey.
