Sony e-Readers Now Available Nationwide At Whitcoulls And Borders
As the e-books revolution sweeps the world, Whitcoulls and Borders have struck a deal with Sony to be the electronic giant’s exclusive book channel partner in New Zealand.
From today two Sony e-readers will go on sale at Whitcoulls and Borders stores across the country where they are expected to be snapped up in the lead-up to Christmas.
“We were the first to launch an e-reader in New Zealand and Kiwis have already shown they are quick to adapt to new technology with thousands of devices sold in the first few months,” says Whitcoulls marketing manager Catherine Collins.
“Having paved the way for e-readers, we’re now extending the range we have on offer with the Sony 6” Reader Touch and the Sony 5” Reader Pocket. Sony was the pioneer of digital reading devices and we’re very pleased to be able to offer our customers exclusive access to their two latest products.”
The Touch will retail for $399.99 and the Pocket for $299.99.
The Sony e-readers use e-ink technology so look like real books which means they can be read outside with no glare. And without a backlight (used on other tablet devices) reading books for hours on end is a pleasure not a strain. They are also very light, have touch screens, long battery life (around two weeks or more), can hold 1,200 books and come equipped with 12 dictionaries, including 10 translation books.
“Going on overseas
experience, Sony e-readers will be very popular gifts for
Christmas. People will be able to load them up with books
from Whitcoulls’ online store before they head off on
their summer holidays,” says Sony general manager of
marketing Matt Walton-Smith.
“Passionate readers can
now easily carry a library of books with them wherever they
go on a device that is smaller and lighter than most
paperbacks.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with New Zealand’s leading book retailers – Whitcoulls and Borders – and making the Sony e-readers available to book-loving Kiwis throughout the country.”
More than 2 million titles are available to download via Whitcoulls’ online ebook store at www.whitcoulls.co.nz
