Red Bull Music Academy: End of Year Throw Down

Red Bull Music Academy presents…
The Hit It & Quit It Revue
End of Year Throw Down

Starring…
Moodymann (Mahogani Music)
DJ Day (Melting Pot/Innernational)
Recloose (Rush Hour/Hit It & Quit It)
Frank Booker (Untracked/Hit It & Quit It)

Red Bull Music Academy and the Hit It & Quit It Revue have joined forces to assemble a stellar end-of-year throwdown starring none other than Detroit’s enigmatically soulful Kenny Dixon Jr. aka MOODYMANN in his long-awaited New Zealand debut.

Moodymann has garnered global cult fame over the past 16+ years through his infectious style of house production (released via his label Mahogani Music) and uncompromising musical approach and self-image. Moodymann’s sound is inseparable from his experience as a lifelong resident and champion of Detroit, Michigan- a city whose rich musical heritage is also intimately connected to its own legacy of urban injustice and spiritual resilience. Often forgotten in the world of music, Detroit has incubated in its artistic inspiration to create some amazingly soulful and unique artists. Today, nobody exemplifies this more than Moodymann.

“I don’t make music for the masses to dance to, I make music for the small majority that listens” –Moodymann

Also joining the Revue will be California’s DJ DAY, one of today’s foremost purveyors of top-shelf hip-hop production, vinyl history and the lost art of DJing. Championed by Gilles Peterson and Jazzy Jeff, DJ Day is a producer, DJ and musician who has worked alongside artists such as Aloe Blacc (Stones Throw), Clutchy Hopkins (Ubiquity), Quantic, Alice Russell and People Under the Stairs. Day has always shown musical diversity while bringing a style all his own.
DJ Day will also be presenting an exclusive Red Bull Music Academy workshop at Auckland’s Red Bull Studio on Thursday 16th December, showcasing his production mastery and unique style on the Akai MPC2000XL.
