Celebrate Christmas With The Apo
Celebrate Christmas With The Apo And Soprano Jenny Wollerman
A candlelit Silent Night, special Christmas crackers, stunning soprano Jenny Wollerman and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra make for a magical combination for the APO's annual Lion Foundation Celebrate Christmas concerts in December.
The 2010 Lion Foundation Celebrate Christmas concerts are on Friday 10 and Sunday 12 December at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell, Auckland.
Led by conductor Kenneth Young, the orchestra is joined by Wellington-based soprano Jenny Wollerman, the Graduate Choir of New Zealand, Auckland Girls Choir and Virtuoso Voce from Diocesan School for Girls in a programme which reaches into the heart of Christmas, featuring well-loved music for the season and lesser-known highlights including Haydns Ein Magd, ein Dienerin and Vivaldi's concerto for strings in E major Il riposo, concerto per il Santissimo Natale.
Traditional APO musical crackers add fun to the festivities each box has eight tuned whistles and sheet music to create a whistle orchestra! The APO Celebrate Christmas concerts have become a part of the city's festive tradition and for some orchestra players it is extra special. Principal Bassoon Ingrid Hagan moved to Auckland from the United States earlier this year and says she is looking forward to playing in the concert for her first summer Christmas.
It is always a pleasure to play orchestral music in a beautiful cathedral. The acoustics are marvellous and the concert is sure to get the musicians and audience in the Christmas spirit.
This year we have the
privilege of playing with several different vocal groups and
soprano Jenny Wollerman and it is a treat to join forces for
this once a year tradition and get everyone excited for the
season. The APO Lion Foundation Celebrate Christmas
concerts are on Friday 10 December at 7.30pm and Sunday 12
December at 3pm at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell,
Auckland. Book tickets by phoning 09 623 1052 or online at
