BILLY T SPECIAL – Saturday December 25 at 8.30 PM

A one-off special featuring the skits of one of our most beloved talents - comedian, entertainer, singer and actor Billy T James. This show rounds up some of his most hard case sketches, including The News, The Traffic Cop, The Hard Case and The Firing Squad.

WAIATA MAORI MUSIC AWARDS – Saturday December 25 at 9.30 PM

Featuring outstanding performances and deserving winners, the 2010 Waiata Maori Music Awards honour the achievements of Maori musicians. An extended replay of coverage at the event, held in Napier in November.

MAHINGA KAI – Sunday December 26 at 6.30 PM

Our kuia and koroua who once gathered kai as a matter of necessity offer an insight into hunting and gathering practices of yesteryear. Tonight: The late Taranaki Nuri speaks from beside Lake Tarawera about his experiences of traditional food gathering practices, and Moe Kerei discusses the practices of her people in the village of Maraeroa.

KAI TIME ON THE ROAD – Sunday December 26 at 7.00 PM

More from Maori Television’s beloved chef, Pete Peeti, as he hits the road in search of the local cuisine, and the colourful characters that make it. Tonight: Pete goes diving for soccer ball-sized kina with the locals of Chatham Islands, and Carlos Tuuta catches up with Pete sharing some of his favourite diving spots.

THE LAST EMPEROR (SUNDAY FEATURE) (1987) – Sunday December 26 at 8.30 PM

The story of Pu Yi, the last emperor of China. Told in flashbacks from the beginning of his reign at the Forbidden City, aged three, this is the story of a man who is also a figurehead at a time of massive political and social change. The last of an ancient regime, his life’s journey will take him from the invasion of Japan, to imprisonment for his role as their puppet, to the revolution that will see him become one among, not above, his people. Starring John Lone, Joan Chen and Peter O’Toole. Shot on location by director Bernardo Bertolucci, the film won an Academy Award for Best Picture.

BATTLE FOR THE RIVER (INTERNATIONAL DOCO) – Tuesday December 28 at 8.30 PM

An insight into the battle for the Namada River. For two decades, a group of women have fought against the armed might of the state, big business and the construction industry.

THE 3RD HALF – Thursday December 30 at 8.30 PM

Club pride is on the line as characters from rugby clubs across the nation join forces with legends of the game in this hilarious sports entertainment show. Featuring radio and former Tongan international rugby star Willie Lose as host, and former All Blacks, the legendary Buck Shelford and Glen Osborne as team captains.

HAUORA A IWI WHANGANUI – Tuesday December 28 at 8.00 PM


Travel into the majestic Whanganui region to meet the local iwi health providers doing their people proud. Tonight: A profile of the physical education programme at Turakina Maori Girls’ College, plus, join kaumatua of Whanganui at Ratana Pa in an initiative to promote whakawhanaungatanga.
