SKYCITY announces winner $10,000 give away

SKYCITY PRESS RELEASE – 13/12/2010

SKYCITY announces the winner of ‘Give the Perfect Christmas Gift’ $10,000 give away

Of the over four hundred entries which flooded into SKYCITY Auckland by post, hand delivery and submitted on Facebook over the past month, Kirsty Bryan of Christchurch was this weekend announced as the winner of the $10,000 Give the Perfect Gift SKYCITY Auckland festive season give away. The giveaway asked the nation to nominate a ‘deserving’ person for the money to make their Christmas wish come true.

Nominated by her mother Jill Revel, Kirsty has battled for most of her life with a rare disease called Von Hippel-Lindau which causes tumours to grow in her body. Earlier this year Kirsty also faced hardship following structural issues with her family’s home after the Canterbury earthquake.

Entries were judged by SKYCITY CEO Nigel Morrison, TVNZ’s Pippa Wetzell, Radio and TV Presenter Mike Hosking and Herald on Sunday Editor, Bryce Johns.

Mr Morrison says, “SKYCITY Auckland is delighted to be able to make someone’s Christmas wish come true. Reading some of the 400 entries was uplifting and emotional. All were deserving but Kirsty’s story of courage in the face of adversity had an obvious impact on the judges – hopefully this goes some way to help.”

Kirsty was quick to acknowledge her mum who she says: “Is always here for me and always looks after me and is my hero. I’d also like to thank all of those who put this competition together and the wonderful judges who gave your time – this is such an amazing thing to happen to us.”

Kirsty has some plans for the money including creating a self-sustainable garden, sending her husband Nick on a beekeeping course and giving her mum a treat this Christmas.
