No TV betting brings more options to TAB customers

Media release
14 December 2010

No TV betting brings more options to TAB customers

From tomorrow (Wednesday 15 December) TAB customers will have the opportunity to bet on a bigger range of racing with the introduction of No TV betting.

Currently the TAB only takes bets on races that are televised. No TV betting allows punters to place bets on overseas races that the TAB does not have the capacity to broadcast on Trackside or TAB TV. These off-shore events will initially come from Australia but may extend to include racing from France and the USA in time.

“This is an exciting development for TAB customers. No TV betting means our customers now have greater choice in their betting, and more opportunity to complement their interest in New Zealand racing with international racing,” says Martin Saunders, General Manager of Wagering for the NZ Racing Board.

As with betting on all racing through the TAB, profits from No TV betting will be invested back into the New Zealand racing industry In the 2009/10 year the New Zealand racing industry received $128.3 million in funding from the NZ Racing Board, and the racing industry generated $1.6 billion in activity for the New Zealand economy.

No TV betting will be available through all TAB betting channels – tab.co.nz, retail stores, Phonebet, SKYbet, and Touchtone. A No TV icon (see notes below) will appear on tab.co.nz race listings and the words No TV will be added to the race title of all non-televised races displayed in printed race form. This will also appear on tickets and on retail store race lists.
