The Waiting is Over! Elton John to be the First!
Capital C: Concerts in conjunction with Dunedin Venues are proud to announce the first major global artist to perform in concert in Dunedin’s New Forsyth Barr Stadium will be Sir Elton John.
The concert featuring Elton and his whole band will help showcase the all year round potential that the venue offers by being the county’s only fully covered stadium and open doors to future visits by other international performers.
David Davies, CEO, Dunedin Venues is thrilled with the concert booking, “Elton is a true legendary superstar. This is a fantastic coup for the city and with his music spanning four decades; this will attract a huge crowd of young and old from the city, region and beyond.”
“Elton will set a benchmark for performances to come in the Stadium and with his five Grammys, an Academy Award as well as Golden Globe Awards under his belt I think we can be fairly confident the bar will be set high. “
“This concert is going to be a big show and a real performance – but most importantly this is an international vote of confidence in Dunedin’s ability to deliver world class events.”
Phil Sprey, Managing Director, Capital C: Concerts, and promoter of the concert commented, “We have hosted Elton in Wellington, New Plymouth and Auckland over the last few years and it is a real honour to be bringing him and his band as the first international music performance in to Forsyth Barr Stadium. It’s been over twenty years since Elton was last in the South Island so he’s excited to be coming back and I know the fans will be delighted with this announcement.”
With more than 250 million albums sold worldwide and one of the most enviable songbooks on the planet, concert-goers at the new Stadium can expect to hear a number of their favorites sprinkled with a few newer songs.
The concert date will be at the end of next year after the city has hosted the Rugby World Cup 2011 fixtures. The date that tickets will go on sale will be announced early in the New Year.
