Title
The Paekakariki SLSC finished off a
dominating weekends competition winning the top Club Trophy
by 148 points. The runner’s up position was closely
contested between East End and Fitzroy, with East End
holding their second place by winning the Open Men’s ski
and board relay wins.
Paekakariki had athletes in events across all of the events including Inflatable Rescue Boat racing and Canoes.
The Central Regional Championships were held at Otaki Beach over the weekend with nice conditions for racing on Saturday and big surf and windy conditions to finish the event on Sunday for the 140 competitors from Taranaki, Hawkes Bay, Manawatu and Wellington.
The U16’s was the most competitive age group with the largest number of athletes competing. Results in the U16 Men’s were dominated by the battle between Paekakariki Club mates, Temuera Forbes, Seth Forbes and Kurtis Imrie. This combination was also the team to beat in the team events.
Kayla Imrie was the stand out in the U19 age group with strong performances in her preferred disciples of ski and board. Other stand out performances came from the under 16 women Tayla Radovanovich from Paekakariki and Rebecca Cole of Fitzroy.
Jake Allen (Paekakariki) Tyler Maxwell (Lyall Bay) and Thomas McCarthy (Paekakariki) hotly contested the under 19 Men’s events throughout the weekend in the swim and craft events.
Conditions were very challenging which tested the athletes, with a number of teams not able to complete the course in ski and board relays.
