Two New Zealanders compete on first day of IPC Athletics

Two New Zealanders, Holly Robinson (Hokitika) and Matthew Lack (Opotiki), will compete on the first day of the IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch tomorrow.

Robinson has the honour of being New Zealand’s first competitor in the F46 shot put final at 11am. Robinson won a bronze in the Australian champs in 2010 and holds the New Zealand record of 8.96m.

Lack, who has a busy schedule throughout the 10-day event, contests the T54 800m heats at 12.40pm. He is the New Zealand record holder at 1.37.73secs.

Competition begins at 9am with the men’s 5000m T46 final. More than 1000 athletes from 70 countries are competing in the championship[s, the first time they have been held outside Europe.
