Zoo Music picks up the tempo with the APO

The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) will be bringing the harmonious sounds of violins and booming percussion to the animals when it plays at Wild Bean Cafe Zoo Music on Friday, 4 February from 7pm.

Named as the most exciting arts and culture company in 2010 by The National Business Review, the APO will be bringing an orchestra of 55 to perform a programme of pieces that the audience will be sure to know.

In keeping with the unique venue, the APO will also be playing movements from The Carnival of Animals Suite by French composer, Camille Saint-Saëns. The guest MC for the evening will be Petra Bagust.

Revenue from the concert will go back into supporting the Zoo’s conservation work, both here in New Zealand and overseas, says Auckland Zoo director Jonathan Wilcken.

“Without the support of the audience who choose to come along to Zoo Music, we would not be able to help out with all of the local and international conservation projects that we are involved with currently,” says Mr Wilcken.

APO cellist Katherine Hebley is encouraging Aucklanders to come along to what promises to be a great evening.

“This concert should be a treat for the eyes and ears, with such a variety of shapes and sounds in both the instruments and the animals nearby. I’m looking forward to hearing the macaw squawk to the trumpet, or the monkeys chattering with the violins,” says Ms Hebley.

A great day and night out – a Zoo Music ticket is also entry to the Zoo on concert day, so music lovers can come early and re-connect with the Zoo at their leisure.

Wild Bean Cafe Zoo Music 2011 is supported by The Radio Network, Juice TV, iSite Media, Brancott Estate, DB Breweries and The Quadrant Hotel Auckland. Tickets are available from Ticketek.
